Review by Richard Lambert, 4 Stars

What a fabulous evening of entertainers to be found in the UK touring show AN EVENING OF BURLESQUE.

With the rather delish seductress Ivy Paige at the helm of this show, it’s a slick and polished production featuring a host of performers alongside la sheila showgirls in their skimpy costumes and feather fan routines.

Unusually for this cabaret style show, featuring individual speciality acts, the showgirls are well integrated into the numbers, setting this above the usual standard of a burlesque show.

The star of the show is the lighting. Just superb!!! Tye Connolly has achieved spectacular stunning looks using all the extensive equipment available at the Adelphi, currently home to Back to the Future. He clearly knows the song list and material extremely well and nails accents, builds and buttons matching musical phrasing and nuances to integrate a level of sophistication that’s rare to find in a burlesque show, and in a tour of one-nighters. Bravo!

The rear video wall showed simple graphics that blend well and a flyman brought in cloths a couple of times during the evening. Experienced performers backed with enough detail to make a delightfully old-fashioned package of touring entertainment.

The costumes are fabulous! Shown off and taken off to become the tease for the night. Isabella Bliss’ rotating champagne glass is the headline act and provides a grand finale to the event, rescuing her audience participation section of the 1st half which didn’t land so well.

Tap dancing and all-round top notch entertainment is delivered by Saucy Davies Jr, terrific comedy magic from Christian Lee (Britain’s Got Talent finalist), loadsa fun and even some fire from the effervescent and sexy Sebastian Angelique and Matt Pang brought his circus skills into the mix with an escape routine from a straight jacket on top of a unicycle. Such a well rounded broad selection of acts!

Well known song choices and live singing, however, occasionally the backing vocals were little loud for the mix with the live singing, but there were one or two note choices from the hostess where this was beneficial. The show is a little long which is not so appreciated in London but favoured in some parts of the UK.

Touring an adult show across the UK is a great addition to the UK theatre scene and this one’s classy and fun without crossing any lines – even for rural England. Mums, dads and especially grandmas should go see this for a self-treat!
