Review by Richard Lambert, 3 Stars
Bily Stritch is famous as a musical director, composer, pianist, performer…..there isn’t much he hasn’t done and excelled in doing. A super-overachiever in all his endeavours.
“It’s not what you do it’s how you do it” is very apt for this evening’s cabaret with Billy. He plays and sings extremely well. Favouring a style of vaudeville and crooner the performance is fabulous, but the song choices could have been better known.
The problem here though is that the lighting isn’t very good, the sound is painfully blastingly loud, and the anecdotes are not that entertaining. They come across a little pedantic and a full list of name dropping of which only a few gain any traction.
Produced by the son of Hoagy Carmichael, this cabaret is definitely one for those amongst us who are a walking encyclopedia of all things Broadway.
