For the first time, Broadway star and Tony Award-winner, Lillias White comes to Crazy Coqs to perform two of her most popular shows: ‘Lillias White sings Broadway’ and ‘Hoagy Carmichael and Friends.’

Review by Richard Lambert, 5 Stars

Broadway star and legend Lillias White performs a selection of songs from her wide Broadway repertoire. The powerful voice and emotion is all encompassing, she exudes a natural presence engaging every single person in the room. She has a way of performing that makes you feel very included and comfortable. Loads of individual eye contact and warmth from the stage.

The show is not slick and polished, it feels a little under-rehearsed, but that adds to the charm. Accompanied by Billy Stritch, Liza Minelli’s music director and pianist, the back and forth chat as they keep each other on track is charming. They’re clearly supportive of each other and used to being in the spotlight.

Some anecdotes, memories and general audience banter make the 75 minutes cabaret fly. The Crazy Coqs is a small intimate space which is possibly too small for this duo. I suspect it will be tough to get tickets for this one!

White has also appeared on Broadway in Cats, Carrie, Once on This Island, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Chicago, and Fela!. For her role in Cy Coleman‘s The Life, she won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her portrayal of a world-weary, no-nonsense, streetwise hooker named Sonja
