Little Death Club
Spiegeltent, Southbank Underbelly
18th April to 23rd June 2019
“Bernie Dieter, much-loved Mistress of Chaos, is joined by whisky-soaked, fire-breathing, utterly bad ass bearded lady Kitty Bang Bang; character comedian and disgruntled mime Josh Glanc; the unique vocal stylings and razor-sharp wit of Myra DuBois; gender bending contortionist and phenomenal aerialist Beau Sargent; and pocket rocket, hair hanging supremo Fancy Chance.
Now the darkest, funniest and most debauched variety show this side of the Berlin wall now comes to London with a new travelling family of misfits, miscreants and
fantastic freaks.”
Review by Richard Lambert, 5 Stars
I thought I’d seen it all – but I’d never seen a woman dancing in such a way that her tit tassles helicopter while alight sporting live flames! Until tonight! And I saw a lot more besides!
And with aerial acts I expect to be both amazed and in awe. Will it be a corde de linge, a hoop, a net, a cube, some scaffolding or other arty sculture – no, how about an aerial act where you’re picked up and suspended by your hair! How scary is that! But this is not just an aerial act with perfect core strength and balance to create aerial acrobatics – apparently if your clothes fall off it does look as though your spins can rotate 5 times as fast! Who knew? Well I do now! Fancy Chance shows how this is done.
Beau Sargeant has flexibility beyond human expectations. The text books tell us that you can have “throw me over your shoulder muscles” and still be flexible but nobody really believes that. Until you see Beau Sargeant perform at Little Death Club. Yes it is clearly possible. What’s even more incredible is how on earth can you do THAT wearing only THAT and not have a costume malfunction? It is possible to clap loudly while holding your breath, and watch while fearing for the very life of the performer. The aerial act is fast, slick and awesome!
Kitty Bang Bang like to play with fire! And Wow, she breathes the largest flames imaginable! Smiling while flames run along her limbs to ignite another fire stick has to be seen to be believed.
And master of ceremonies is the incredible Bernie Dieter. Grabbing the audience with her charismatic presence, impressive voice and quick witted rapport she’s a dynamite “once seen never forgotten” performer!
Everything is done brilliantly – the live band, the lighting, the costumes, the sound, the pace, the show composition and structure. It’s rare when a show gets its production components right!
The hour spent with this troupe of talent quickly passes – but leaves a lasting impression! Definitely one to see and then you’ll tell all your friends they should go! Don’t miss it!
