“SHOUT! the Mod Musical has returned to London and is now playing at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate Village until Sunday 20 July 2025 ahead of visiting Canterbury and Windsor.

Featuring over 30 hits from the 1960s including ‘You’re My World’, ‘Downtown’, ‘Son of a Preacher Man’, ‘These Boots are made for Walkin’’ and ‘I Only Want to be with You’, SHOUT! bursts onto the stage with colour, glitz and energy.

Join us as we journey back to 1960s London tracking the lives of five women as they come of age in this psychedelic, eye-popping, fun-filled musical comedy, which will make you want to throw your head back and SHOUT!

Review by Richard Lambert, 4 Stars

With so many hits that we all know and love this show is a feel-good juke-box musical for everyone!

The musical numbers are interspersed with comedy sketches and the 5 girls, each in a different colour, use their personality and characters to inject a lot of humour and giggles along the way. It’s very funny! Tongue in cheek humour and a reflection of the 1960s and attitudes about women at that time. With superb casting and a great line-up of talent, the evening flies along!

Backed by a 3 piece band – 2 keys and a tymphony drum set. The band was comprised of 3 very serious-looking musicians who did eventually smile after the show at their playoff applause. Brilliantly playing the songs but at a volume that occasionally was a little overwhelming for the size of the space.

The Set design was fun and colourful and included many lighting elements. The Sound design didn’t quite manage to lift the singers especially for the one singing the story so a lot of it was a lovely pleasant sound but difficult to decipher the lyrics. The lighting was colourful in places and had some accents that enhanced the songs.

Apart from most of the cast having great vocals and characterisations, the other stand-out element of the show is the choreography. Camp as a row of tents and endless energy for the cast who mastered and delivered the choreo with gusto. Even the choreography has a sense of humour that matched the style of the show.

And the shoes and boots! Wow! They definitely need a mention! Fabulous!

This show has definitely been directed for the front view so if you have a choice I’d advise sitting in the front seating bank. The set, signage, and delivery is all “out-front” with a lot that can’t be seen from the side seating banks.

A fun well executed show for a fabulous night out is available here, but only until 20th July!
